Incorporated in 1973, and originally known as Kuwait Real Estate Bank, KIB made the transition to its current Islamic operating model in 2007. The bank’s vision is to be the Islamic bank of choice in Kuwait, and it’s employing a three-pillar strategy to achieve it. The first pillar focuses on digitisation of financial and retail services in order to meet the evolving needs of a tech-savvy society. Forbes ME included KIB in the top 50 listed companies of Kuwait. Fitch ratings has affirmed KIB’s Long-term Issuer Default Rating at ‘A+’ with a stable outlook in 2017.
The Bank is organized into four segments: the Commercial and international segment covers a range of banking services and investment products to corporate customers, and provides commodity and real estate murabaha finance, Ijara and wakala facilities; the Retail segment offers a range of banking services and investment products to individual customers, as well as provides commodity and real estate murabaha finance, Ijara and wakala facilities; the Investment Management segment comprises of investment in associates and other investments. Lastly, the Treasury, Fund Management and Institutional Banking segment comprises of liquidity management, correspondent banking, clearing, murabaha investments, exchange of deposits with banks and financial institutions.
